Just Charlii drops a contemporary self-love anthem with “I’m Not Your Past”
London-based singer-songwriter Just Charlii cements her status as an enchanting new LGBTQ+ voice with the memorable “I’m Not Your Past”.
Merging her formidable songwriting chops with glossy production stylings, Just Charlii creates a slice of silky pop perfection on her new track “I’m Not Your Past”, taken from her new EP Mood.
With a knack for merging a razor-sharp hook with a sonic palette that mixes sultry, jazz-hinting pop with layered synthesisers and a smoky vocal, the track attempts to break down the tricky topic of attempting to fix a broken relationship.
“Past traumas are the fuel for this one,” explains Just Charlii. “If there is anything we all have in common, it’s insecurities and trust issues from how we’ve been previously treated. I struggle to let a lot of that go sometimes; and as a protection barrier for myself I seclude away in relationships scared the past might repeat itself.
“Ultimately the meaning behind this song is to live in the moment. Don’t allow past experience to stop yourself from receiving the love you deserve from someone in the present moment.”
