Julie Bergan delivers her most honest and open vocal so far on new single "Incapable"
Following her storming singles "Arigato" and "Blackout", Norway's Julie Bergan is back with her biggest and best track yet.
"Incapable" is a slower tempo turn for Bergan, and it allows the Norwegian to show off her impressive voice, delivering lines in husky tones we've not heard before while also soaring to new heights in the chorus.
With a debut album imminent, it proves that Julie Bergan isn't just all about explosive bangers. The future looks bright on all front.
We caught up with Bergan recently to chat about the single and how the album is shaping up.
Hey Julie, how’s life?
Julie Bergan: "Heeeey! Life's great, actually. Thanks for asking! I'm on a really good flow right now, and I'm super excited about a lot of things I have ahead of me."
What can you tell us about the new single?
"This is a really personal song, and it has a little different sound to it than my previous singles. I've loved this track ever since I wrote it earlier this year, so I've been longing to release it for quite some time. I would say it’s more feelings and heartfelt power, both in the vocals and the production."
It’s a slower sound for you than your last couple of tracks, is this something you were keen to do?
"Absolutely! I've been writing so much for the past two years, but haven't got the chance to release any 'slow songs' yet, so when I wrote this I felt like: THE TIME HAS FINALLY COME!"
How’s the album sounding?
"The way the album has developed, I think it sounds a lot like how I am as a person. It has a lot of energy, feelings, thoughts and it's a lot about the rollercoaster I've been through for the past couple years. Both ups and downs, and you definitely get a bigger picture of how I am as both a musician and person. I'm showing a lot of new sides of myself, which is really nervewracking and exciting at the same time."
You’ve been a slow-building buzz name, are you happy with how things are progressing especially outside of Norway?
"I really like going step by step without rushing anything. My whole career is about my music, and me developing and growing as an artist. So, when things aren't moving too fast, I feel more prepared for good and big things that happen. I feel I’ve grown, gotten my name out there and is more in control of my career and where I want to go now than just two or three years ago. And I'm really glad things are progressing outside of Norway at this point, because I'm very hungry for more, and I am going to work my ass off to make this work all over the world."
Are you working with anyone we might know on the album?
"Not so sure about that, think you have to be really into the music biz for that. You see, for this new music coming I’ve focused on finding a team that would help me strengthen my expression as an artist and establish my sound. Kid Joki, who produced 'Arigato', has of course been very important, and my main partner in crime – but also other fellow Scandinavians. There are actually a lot of Scandinavian contributors on the album. True talents, so everyone just watch out for these attacking Vikings from the north!"
You, Fanny Andersen and Astrid S are a super-tight group of friends, can you tell us about how you all get along?
"They're the best friends you can get! Funny and unique, and I just love how much we love each other and what we're doing. It's great having best friends that are doing the same thing as you, and who are going through a lot of the same things. Also, I'm so inspired by them, and couldn't be more excited about their success."
Are you excited for what 2018 might bring?
"HELL YEAH! There's so many exciting things to come, and I'm releasing my very first album (which I've dreamed about my entire life)! I believe a lot of great things will happen. COME AT ME, 2018!"
