South Londoner Jude Woodhead defies categorisation with invigorating debut single “Beautiful Rain”
Jude Woodhead’s debut single “Beautiful Rain” channels a mature sense of musicality and world influence that far surpasses any expectations of a twenty-year-old.
“Beautiful Rain” is a timeless swirl of euphoric electronics. Blending afro-beat above a centred “Beautiful Rain” vocal sample, Woodhead captivates the listener with emotional continuity. Rising with subtlety, the track develops with additions of melodic synthesizers and momentary drum breaks that provide a colour-fast image of joy, making it a vessel in which to lose yourself.
Woodhead is classically trained - picking up a trumpet at age seven and producing from age eleven, he found inspiration in artists like Floating Points and Four Tet. Discovering his dad’s collection of Congolese and South African records, he began blending the sounds of his childhood, the result is this stunning debut.
Commenting on the track and video, Woodhead suggests it’s “about memory, particularly the way that we remember things as snapshots or scenes. Hopefully this sense of young summer nostalgia for the time when I made the song comes across in the video.”
