Sweden's Judaskyssen announce themselves with the undulating melancholia of "Noah"
A brand new band, a brand new track and a brand new label is a lot all at once but this is what we get with the debut release from Judaskyssen.
Formed by Carl Hedén and Patrik Johansson, who met while playing in IKONS (one of Service's many fine acts), Judaskyssen are signed to the newly-created West Coast Recordings and will be releasing their first single next week in the form of "En gång om året", the A-side to the track we're bringing you today "Noah".
While "Noah" is instrumental, Judaskyssen sing in their native language which adds that extra element of mystery and wonder to their music. The wordless track, though, is pretty great tself. A lolloping and gigantic groove is taken from Hedén and Johansson's time in IKONS and twisted by some bleeps straight from The Dirty South. There's some sparkling cosmic wonder in the various electronic whirrs, beats and glissandos which float in and out of the track, which has the feel of an improvisational piece but the structure of modern electronica.
Produced by the band and with artwork courtesy of Dan Lissvik's alias Atelje, "Noah" feels like the start of something special for Judaskyssen. Listen below.
