Cardiff-based fivesome, Joanna Gruesome, have aired a compellingly dark grungy take on Galaxie 500′s dreamy track “Tugboat”.
Sticking with the ghostly, soothing vocals, they proceed in taking the original to a higher level. The guitar melodies ooze with fuzz and reverb on the chorus, and contrast with the softer touches heard in the verses, adding more power and diversity to the track. The persistent drums stay true to the Joanna Gruesome sound, giving the cover a rough and raw edge to offset the tranquil lo-fi vocals.
“Tugboat” features on the “Sugarcrush” single, out now via Slumberland Records.
