Let alt-pop duo joan whisk you away with a dreamy trip to "tokyo"
Escape into a whirlwind of romance and reckless abandon with "tokyo", joan's third and final single of the year.
joan are Alan Thomas and Steven Rutherford of Little Rock, Arkansas, and they met while playing as part of other musical projects. The pair quickly hit it off and now, a little over a year since they started working together, their blisteringly cool synth-pop is as stirring as ever.
Wrapped up in the spontaniety of a fleeting love story, "tokyo" is all about making the most of the time you have left, seizing the moment and – in the words of Carly Rae Jepsen – asking someone to "run away with me".
Fitting seemlessly alongside their previous singles, "take me on" and "love somebody like you", "tokyo" is once again influenced by 80s pop and 90s R&B. Its a sugar rush of sweet, sweet guitar riffs and an infectious chorus that harks back to a summer of daydreaming, warming us up in the depths of winter.
