Synth-pop duo joan enlist Walk The Moon producer for debut single “take me on”
After mere months writing and recorded as a duo, Alan Thomas and Steven Rutherford release their debut single as joan.
joan’s sound sees the pair fully immersed in the influences of previous decades, with particular nods to the 80s and 90s. The pop and R&B stylings are drawn from memories of Thomas and Rutherford’s youth, buzzing with the energy of current pop heavyweights. There’s something for every pop fan here, whether they prefer Carly Rae Jepsen’s inescapable brilliance or the more left-field sounds of groups like LANY.
On “take me on”, choppy guitars overlay the warm glow of 80s-influenced synths. The pair explain that the inspiration behind the track is simple; it’s about “spending tonight and forever with the one you love.” With mixing and co-production from Walk The Moon and St. Lucia alumnus Tim Pagnotta, it’s no wonder the cut is a pure and sunny slice of uplifting synth-pop.
