Jimmy Eat World frontman Jim Adkins ventures solo with this brassy tune "I Will Go"
Jim Adkins, the long-standing frontman of emo pioneers Jimmy Eat World, has shared his first solo single "I Will Go".
Laced with brassy flourishes, strings, and acoustic strums, "I Will Go" moves away from the stadium alt. rock of his day-job's recent records, and towards polished Americana.
Adkins is set to release three singles, each comprising one original track and one cover. On the flipside of "I Will Go", he covers "Give Me A Sweetheart" by the Everly Brothers, while the upcoming releases will see him tackle tracks by Beck and Cyndi Lauper. Speaking about the project, he says:
“2015 seemed like as good a time as any to take a second and experiment with life outside the pattern. In the past I have been involved with solo work, playing mostly benefit concerts locally in my home of Arizona. Toward the end of our last European tour I decided to stick around and play a solo show in Berlin. I thought to myself: hey, this is different and also pretty fun…I could keep going. So why not?”
You can pre-order the single on Adkins' website. All three are released 11 September on 7", while the digital editions will be drip-fed over the coming weeks.
