Step into the twisted cosmos of Jazmin Bean with "Puppy Pound"
Multidisciplinary artist Jazmin Bean challenges negativity through creativity on "Puppy Pound", their first music of 2022.
Harsh synths grate up against distorted dog barks as Jazmin bites back against a downer influence in their life. Sonically dark and with metaphorical lyricism that easily creates the jarring atmosphere they’re going for, “Puppy Pound” spins its story through an anthropomorphic, angry haze as wacky as Jazmin has always been.
As per, they’re equally as vivid in their imagery as in the music, cavorting around the eerie, clinical video with an unsettlingly grisly CGI muzzle alongside jagged makeup and setting cute puppies against cutting special effects to keep us on our terrified toes. It’s as playful as it is perturbing - their trademark combo.
Speaking about the track, Jazmin shares, “Puppy Pound is about when you’re feeling your best, you think you’re coming into yourself and then that one person comes and knocks you down with everything you do.”
“It came about in a place where I was feeling quite trapped, but could see so much c*** and shine in myself… but whenever this one person would voice their opinion or bring their energy around I just felt like I was in the shits. I was so depressed with the situation I thought I should make it into something more fun themed.”
“Puppy Pound” is the first tune of a new Jazmin Bean era, but they’ve maintained their theatricality and sense of the otherworldly, as well as their acidic knack for a synthy atmosphere. “I feel like the sound is changing definitely,” Jazmin tells BEST FIT. “I still want it to remind and reference older sounds but keep on evolving. It’s definitely a different moment.”
“In 2022 you can expect a lot I really hope. A lot of emotions lol, good and bad. As far as music goes, I’d love to release my album this year, I love it so much just want it out!”
