Still a mystery of sorts, Jade Aura return with the slowcore shimmer of "Impulse"
Stockholm-based Jade Aura appeared on our radar around a year ago with their ace self-titled EP. Twelve months of silence later, they're back with a new track and new extended player.
Made up of Rikard Pihl-Roos and Tomas Ögren - and that's still just about all we know of these shadowy Swedes - Jade Aura make slow-moving, reverb-heavy guitar music which takes in elements of post-rock, shoegaze and slowcore.
Not much happens on "Impulse", but it happens beautifully. Chiming guitars meet flat drums, the track slowly unfolding as echoing vocals rattle around inside the instrumental framework. The words "you want to be a monster...you want to sail away from the expectations that grow" appear out of the mist, and disappear just as quickly.
Nebulous, out of reach and ultimately mysterious, Jade Aura are a fascinating prospect.
