Brighton duo IYES follow up their stunning debut “Til Infinity’” with the beautifully blurry electronic pop of “Breathe”, out via Duly Noted Records on 5 May.
Oozing with an inherent sexiness, and imagined by the band’s Josh Christopher as written “with an image in mind of a naked lady, in a jungle, with a snake wrapped around her”, the track has a woozy, percussive beat with shimmering snatches of synths that lie on top of one another throughout the song. In the foreground, Melis Soyaslanová trades vocals with Christopher – his laconic whispered style a contrast against her saccharine sweet voice.
The additional production of MNEK helps provide a blanket of electronic hue around the track, which the chorus wraps itself sensually around. It’s almost as if the title is a potent reminder to the listener, such is it’s suffocating charm.
Catch the band with Sivu at Gold Dust, Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, London on 16 April.
