Irma Vep shares "Still Sorry" from new album No Handshake Blues
Manchester-based troubadour Irma Vep announces new album No Handshake Blues and shares lead single "Still Sorry".
Irma Vep, born Edwin Stevens in the North Wales town of Llanfairfechan, is a staple in Manchester's DIY scene, and is involved with Sex Hands, Klaus Kinski, Desmadrados Soldados De Ventura, Yerba Mansa, and more.
"Still Sorry" is a stellar piece of wonky psych-pop - like the kind made by Cate Le Bon or Kiran Leonard - with warm and fuzzy guitars, swooning strings, and a gradually unfolding drama. Over the five-and-a-bit-minutes of gold-plated noise, "Still Sorry" grows from an intimate, lo-fi seed into a crashing wave of pent-up feelings. Ratatat percussion meets howls of emotion and bold melody - it's a cathartic climax that leaves you cleansed after the final note stops ringing.
No Handshake Blues is the follow up to last year's Live At The Quiet Music Festival of Portland. The new LP is described as an "homage to Llanfairfechan (Transylfechan to the locals)".
In the coming weeks Irma Vep will play Manchester's Fallow Cafe (20 October) and Fuel Cafe Bar (4 November), as well as the Wharf Chambers in Leeds (5 November). Although he often plays solo, Irma Vep is sometimes joined by a star-studded full band: DBH, Andrew Cheetham, Dave Rowe, Kiran Leonard, and Dylan Hughes.
