Imarhan, Tinariwen's 'little brothers', unveil debut single "Tahabort" [UK Premiere]
Imarhan, a Tuareg outfit from Northern Mali, are showcasing their first single "Tahabort" on Best Fit.
The band, described as 'Tinariwen's little brothers', are from the same region as both Tinariwen and Songhoy Blues, and they peddle a funk-laden blend of African music and '70s pop.
Like their compatriots, the band write songs to alleviate the struggles their communities have gone/are going through. "Tahabort" itself looks at the Tuareg youth, with the video capturing a carefree band traipsing across the Sahara in a truck. There's plenty of psychedelic imagery, kaleidoscopic mirages and shots of windswept musicians jamming by the roadside.
The single is out now, and Imarhan's debut record is slated for early next year.
