Idles tease debut record with pummelling lead single "Divide & Conquer"
Bristol post-punks Idles share "Divide & Conquer", the first song their long-awaited debut record.
It's a shadowy barrage from the outfit, who've usually mashed aggression and volume with bloodlust and hedonism. It's politically charged and furious - it's a visceral glimpse behind the mask of Idles, and it's a bruising, lacerating listen.
Writing on Facebook, the band explain the song: "It was written at a time where I watched my mother deteriorate in a hospital that was itself dying. The song was an observation on how simple financial cuts and the mere action of writing a cross in a box can cut someone's life short. Today the Tories have started the campaign to sell what ever is left of our NHS or the Sustainability and Transformation Plan as they've put it. Fuck off."
The band's debut album follows a slew of highly rated EPs, including this year's MEAT and META releases. The debut LP hasn't got a release date or title yet.
