Icelandic duo Hugar enlist Arnór Dan for stirring new single "Waves"
Ahead of a show at Iceland Airwaves this week, Hugar are releasing the first in a series of vocal collaborations in the shape of the gorgeous "Waves".
Recording with the heavenly vocals of Arnór Dan, singer with Agent Fresco and frequent Ólafur Arnalds collaborator, Hugar (made up of Bergur Þórisson & Pétur Jónsson) have been making music together for a couple of years but perhaps nothing quite as epic as "Waves".
With elements of Sigur Rós in the gentle piano and treated strings which slowly swell alongside the soft brass of a trumpet, Hugar move away slightly from the epic instrumental territory and head towards impassioned indie rock thanks in no small part to Arnór Dan's soaring vocals, which beseech for some kind of stability in his world which seems to get more turbulent as the song progresses. Hugar's instrumental provides a calm balance to Dan's wrought voice, and together it's an impressive, immersive whole.
