Honey Mooncie’s “Nice To Have A Break” is a story of realistic romance through sweet inflections
Working with Tobie Tripp (Tom Misch) on the single’s poetic beauty, Honey Mooncie's “Nice To Have A Break” has an adolescent fragility at its core.
Sussex-based Honey Mooncie began her artistic career at just 11 years old, writing music and youthful ditties inspired by some of the jazz greats. Now 18, Mooncie has blended these brassy tones with a contemporary twist to create her own unique style, layering each release with her silky smooth vocals.
“Nice To Have A Break” opens with a gentle, finger-plucked guitar melody, the stripped-back production allowing her sugary vocals to guide the track’s narrative. “It’s about taking time out from a relationship in the hope to make it stronger,” she details, filling the story of realistic romance with a yearning for space.
“I wrote ‘Should’ve Been You’ late last year with Tobie Tripp in our first session together,” says Honey. “I wanted to write an optimistic track about a breakup, keeping the lyrics lighthearted reflecting the general mood of the song. ‘Should’ve Been You’, being one of the first tracks of mine that I was truly proud of and excited by; it only felt right for it to be my debut single.”
