HOLYCHILD's "Hundred Thousand Hearts" is completely bonkers, but rather brilliant
Sometimes, all you want is for pop music to burst with life and not take itself too seriously and HOLYCHILD's latest effort perfectly fulfils that criteria, acting as a joyful and unabashed celebration of love and its all encompassing power.
"Hundred Thousand Hearts" opens with a twinkling melody that would not be out of place in a West End musical, with a tantalising air of The Rocky Horror Picture Show about its deceptive simplicity. Frontwoman Liz Nistico's vocals are saccharin sweet as the tracks bursts with lively colour, delving deep into the emotional complexity and amazing power of love in all its wonder.
Explaining the meaning and inspiration behind the endlessly playful track, Nistico says “'Hundred Thousand Hearts' is about how nothing else matters except love. The world will eventually end, and I hope when my residual energy is floating past the constellations it holds some semblance of the love I have in my life. That's what the song is about. How relationships are complicated but they define us.”
The song comes as another chapter in HOLYCHILD's ongoing project that continues to explore the various experiences of life as an American women, this time exploring love and desire, whilst future tracks will look at failure, lust and sadness.
