Holy Wave share the thunderous and expansive “I’m Not Living in the Past Anymore”
Filled with intoxicating hooks and explosive choruses, Holy Wave’s new single “I’m Not Living in the Past Anymore” is indicative of something special in the making as they announce new album Interloper.
Opening on a drone of lyrics, drums, guitars and bass and with the title of the track repeated throughout each verse, Holy Wave’s new single “I’m Not Living in the Past Anymore” exists in the midst of tense and repetitive instrumentation. Written almost as an incantation for a better outlook on life, the self-imposed echo chamber of the verse breaks when the incendiary chorus takes hold, filled with high-end guitar distortion that is reminiscent of bands like Yak.
In a lot of ways, the rough cuts of Holy Wave’s new outing are reminiscent of their earliest work found on their 2012 debut album Evil Hits, but the brave duality of this latest track hints at something new and truly bold to come. Speaking on the single, the band explain that “I’m Not Living in the Past Anymore” is “a sort of mantra. Repetition is crucial in changing the way you interpret and interact with the world around you.”
Attempting to express the duality of their lives as musicians, splitting time between the road and home, “I’m Not Living in the Past Anymore” serves as an excellent centre point to introduce their new album, Interloper. Defined as “a person who becomes involved in a place or situation where they are not wanted or are considered not to belong,” Holy Wave’s fifth collection will be an examination of the increasingly relevant trope of remaining consistent and true to yourself in a world that is changing faster than any of us can keep up with.
