Holm reveals life-affirming cover of Robyn classic "With Every Heartbeat"
As we continue to celebrate the return of God-like genius Robyn and her defiant "Missing U", Danish singer-songwriter Holm pays homage to the Scandinavian Queen of Pop with a tightly-wound post-punk rendition of her 2005 breakthrough "With Every Heartbeat".
"In 2010 I attended a live concert with the Swedish artist Robyn. At the time I was not familiar with her music, neither had I ever attended a major concert with a mainstream pop act. It was completely foreign territory to me and therefore I absolutely didn’t have any expectations whatsoever." Holm, real name Mikkel Holm-Silkjær explains. "Quite the contrary; as the young naive teenager I was at the time I kind of detested the entire setup: “pop music. Yea right”. Well it goes like this: I was blown away, nothing less. The show absolutely stuck with me, still to this day. Robyn had something I had never experienced to such a degree at the time.
"Fast forward over half a decade later. A blissful summer night in my hometown, I’m spending the evening drinking wine and doing karaoke with my long time friend and band mate Emil. Somehow we decide to make a cover song, and as the persistent only child that I am, I get to decide which song we do a cover of. Nothing else came to my mind than With Every Heartbeat by Robyn. The song that altered my perception of pop music."
