CLOVES' "Hit Me Hard" is punchy pop with a satisfyingly percussive pulse
CLOVES has kept her nose to the grindstone since her 2015 debut, and there's no momentum lost on animated new single "Hit Me Hard".
"Hit Me Hard" will pique the interest of fans of Alice Merton. Its punchy, percussive feel is held together with a steadily pulsing guitar line and powerfully simple piano, over which CLOVES' resonant, defiant vocal delivers her hard-hitting lyrics.
"'Hit Me Hard' definines the last moments of a relationship, the London-based singer explains. "It had gotten to the point where we were just emotionally shut off from each other, living in each others’ space but not really there. I'd had a couple drinks at the pub one night with some of my friends and as soon as I got home we immediately started arguing. I finally told him to hit me with something real, and asked him to tell me what he was really thinking because I couldn’t be a part of that act anymore."
"Hit Me Hard" is accompanied by the news of CLOVES' debut album, One Big Nothing. Described by CLOVES as "a rough around the edges, wobbly journey to self growth," the record is due to drop 28 September, ending fans' long wait for a full-length project.
