Listen: High Drags – “Hot Hot Summer”
Bro and sis duo, James and Marissa Longstreet, head up the dizzying concoction of dream-pop and hip-hop of High Drags, currently hailing from Los Angeles, CA via Rochester, NY.
What a fantastic and fitting band name to accompany their latest single, “Hot Hot Summer”, as its skulking guitar riff and twinkling synth line amble along side by side, heads full of smoke, dragging Marissa’s drawling rap out of her as they go.
In these dregs of winter, Marissa does a grand job reassuring us, in her husky, reefer-tinged slur, that “life will only get better…we’re playin’ it cool for winter / preparin’ for a hot hot summer”. It’s certainly a summer tune, though not your typical bright and breezy blue skies type venture, but more suited for those sultry early evening times when the sun hangs low and bulbous on the horizon.
Check the tune out below and, like the inevitable doobie you’ll strike up midway through, pass it on like a chaaaaaain lettah…
