Hey Gloria impress on the clattering and hypnotic "Jag vill ha dig"
Splitting the difference between Velvet Underground, Young Marble Giants and Galaxie 500, Trondheim's Hey Gloria are making some of the most mesmeric rock and roll to come from Scandinavia in some time.
The core of the band is Linnea Jansson, a songwriter from Karlstad, Sweden and Kristin Wensel Ellingsen, a songwriter from Tromsø and apparently Norway's only female steel guitarist. Their new single "Jag vill ha dig" is a pretty special introduction.
Powered by a clanging guitar riff and Jansson's hypnotic, warbling vocal the track chugs along like best dark and dirge-y dream pop. When splashes of cymbal come in alongside sharp strings and Jansson pushes her voice to even more urgent registers, it's thrilling and absolutely something we need to hear a lot more of.
"'Jag vill ha dig' is a song that touches topics like lust, desire and wanting love," says Hey Gloria. "When we´re playing it live we want everyone snogging on the dance-floor." Pucker up, because this lot are fantastic.
