Hey Elbow return with the boom and chime of new single "Quest"
Back with fresh material for the first time since their 2015 debut album, Swedish trio Hey Elbow have unveiled their excellent new single.
"Quest" begins with the echoing drums of Liam Amner, all jazz and muscle, before he's joined by the heavenly jangle of Julia Ringdahl's guitar and the low bass buzz of Ellen Petersson's electronic set-up.
A little more straight-ahead than the tracks from Every Other yet still filled with intrigue and mess (thanks to Petersson's synth and horn genius), "Quest" really comes alive through a gorgeous extended outro filled with soaring vocals, rattling percussion and a dreamy ambient wash. It's a song divided; at once looking back to what made Hey Elbow a thrilling prospect, while driving forward to exciting new places.
