Henric Claes goes solo with the dreamscape audio art of "Owl Light"
Malmö is a productive city musically, and one of the best bands to emerge from it over the last decade were psych-rock three-piece This Is Head. They’ve been quiet since their 2015 self-titled third album, apart from a remix EP the following year, but now guitarist Henric Claes has re-emerged with a solo project and a debut single.
"Owl Light" is evidence that Claes hasn’t exactly sprinted away from his This Is Head past: the song clearly, and naturally, shares a lot of DNA with that band’s work. But as a solo artist Claes moves in different stylistic waters: "Owl Light" is more soft and spacy music than that band ever touched. Like a projection flickering on a wall, it stretches and moves, audio art flowing and dancing in strange motion.
Claes says: “What I want to convey musically with 'Owl Light' is a state of being, like dreaming away, stopping for a while to live in your imagination, travelling forward, letting a wave grab hold of you and floating with it". An EP, entitled I Wake up with the Sun in My Eyes, is due later this year and you can listen to "Owl Light" above.
