Pop newcomer Hannah Jane Lewis reveals stunning debut single "Why Start A War"
UK-based, NYC-raised artist Hannah Jane Lewis is unveiling "Why Start A War", her debut single, on Best Fit.
The track is a vivid bout of roof-rattling synthpop. Shimmering, satin vox - lurking somewhere between Foxes and Selena Gomez - pirouette through a grand electro backdrop punctuated by choppy samples, pitch-shifted harmonies, and slick production. Chunky beats ricochet through Samba-influenced rhythms, with immense house keys stabbing through the noise - "Why Start A War" is an endlessly captivating trek through different styles, linked together by Lewis' impressive vocal display. This is huge, and arrives just in time for summer.
Speaking about the track, Lewis says: "'Why Start A War' is about when you really want to help someone you can see is struggling but they won't let you in. So you kind of have to watch them battle it out in their mind and just be there when its over, which can be hard when its someone you're close to.”
The debut EP from Hannah Jane Lewis is out out 17 June.
