Journey to self-fulfilment and personal growth with Hannah Barnett's reflective "Patience"
Time heals all eventually and Hannah Barnett has certainly taken her sweet time releasing the follow-up to her 2015 debut "Nails".
"Every building starts with just one stone/masterpieces start with the first brush stroke" Barnett ruminates, as the opening lines of "Patience" creep through sparse electronica. The track unfurls into a combination of looped vocoder and ambient synthesis where questions of patience and forbearance are reflected on and answered. More than anything, "Patience" deals with acknowledging that sometimes changes need to be made, but that these inherently will be out of our control.
The pairing of Barnett's honest lyrics with the darker, glitch-heavy production, create an almost ominous tone as she questions everything until she finally finds a hopeful resolution, "while I'm waiting for you / I will find my form".
