Hamond loses himself in a rush of regret on his understated second single "Never Know"
Having hit reset this year, multi-instrumental and producer Hamond has refined his sound and is releasing his best music to date.
Taken from his forthcoming debut EP Source Material, Hamond's R&B-inspired alternative tracks were stripped from streaming services to make way for this new chapter. Now residing solely on Soundcloud, the Houston-born newcomer's earlier work offers a glimpse into this exciting artist's development, but it's new single "Never Know" which is his most promising so far.
Whether you're caught at the crossroads of a decision or you're replaying a moment from five years ago which could have changed your current situation immeasurably, it's easy to beat yourself up in during both the process of choosing your route and looking back at the different paths which were once available to you. Letting yourself get trapped in that cycle of regret isn't going to help, but Hamond finds himself consumed by the what-if on "Never Know".
All about hindsight, the new single sees Hamond play with a less-is-more mentality in terms of production as he battles with a lack of control in the track's lyrics. ""Never Know" [is about] questioning regret for past decisions," he explains, "whether the route you chose is the right one and if you’ll regret not giving something more effort and attention."
The follow-up to his debut single "Outside", both tracks tease what's to come on Source Material. The eclectic collection is set to lay further foundations to Hamond's emerging, artistic take on electronic pop.
