Gordi strips back Bon Iver's "00000 Million" on her acapella cover
This year Gordi, aka Sophie Payton, released her debut EP Clever Disguise, delivering an intricately crafted collection of honest, introspective tracks showcasing her artistry.
Payton explores the minimalism of acapella stripping Bon Iver’s “00000 Million” to the bare bones of Justin Vernon’s lyrics.
The Australian singer-songwriter has already exhibited her knack for making really special cover versions with her breath-taking transformation of Courtney Barnett’s “Avant Gardener” into a spellbinding ballad. Her own EP has a similar magical essence from the partnership if her lyrics with her captivating vocals.
“00000 Million” originally appears on Bon Iver’s latest full length record 22, A Million where it closes the album and is already heavily reliant on just Vernon’s vocals, but Gordi takes this a step further with devastating results. With just reverb and some layered vocals, the cover is intimate and every word is distinct cutting through the silence. It’s a heartfelt listen for these trying times.
