"The Day I Was Born" is a see-sawing country freewheel from Good Good Blood
James Smith's Good Good Blood project is gearing up to release their second album of 2017 before the end of the year, and today we're bringing you the latest single.
The last time we featured Good Good Blood here it was the soft and fragile "Fallen Leaves", but Smith is back with some - if not too much - swagger on "The Day I Was Born".
Built around a languid acoustic strum and simple backbeat, Smith's vocals sound double tracked to create sweet harmonies firmly in the alt.country bracket. Reminiscent of Hiss Golden Messenger at their most laidback, there's a little psychedelia fluttering at the edges of the track as an electric guitar guides us to an all-too-early fadeout. Good Good Blood are sounding altogether more hopeful right now, brightening the corners of previously darkened rooms.
