Melbourne's Gonzo Jones delivers a shimmering hit of vitamin D with his debut track "Misty Dreams"
The summer sun may seem like a distant concept these days, but Melbourne-based artist Gonzo Jones is here to tell you those warm rays are closer than you think.
Having freshly signed to the ever dependable Good Manners Records, Jones has wasted no time in delivering his opening salvo in the form of “Misty Dreams”, the title track from his forthcoming EP, and the title of a song has never been more apt.
Finding a home in the same slacker-rock territory as the likes of Mac DeMarco, Jones embraces the concept of loose guitar jams, but infuses them with a healthy dose of up-front emotion.
The track is held together by Jones’ take on the meaning of desire and how a person deals with its emotional heft. Jones says this of the track: “There is a thin line between desire and obsession, 'Misty Dreams' plays across both fronts. When being close to someone just isn't enough, wanting them so badly that you would chase them into their dreams.”
But such heavy concepts are delivered by way of a slick wave of shimmering guitar and impossibly smooth summer vibes.
“Misty Dreams” consists of hooks so effortlessly shimmering, listening to it is like mainlining vitamin D. Summer really is closer than you think.
