Glasgow's producer/singer HQFU airs debut track "Dust & Dirt" as free download
Glasgow-based producer/singer HQFU has shared debut track "Dust & Dirt" as a free download.
Née Sarah J. Stanley, HQFU is well-known on the Scottish folk circuit, but has since swivelled to focus on the electronic side of music, offering up the bleepy-bloopy majesty of "Dust & Dirt".
The Aberdeen-raised Stanley grew up in a "fundamentalist Christian household... where she was not allowed to own or admit to use of any secular music," and so she would pilfer "her brother’s 90s dance tapes".
"Dust & Dirt" twists through a farrago of strident beats and Crystal Castles-shaped synth lines - it's abrasive, but melodic, and sucks you deep into an insular world of intimate euphoria.
The debut Her EP arrives on 6 November.
