Listen: Girl Band – “The Cha Cha Cha”
Dublin’s own Girl Band are an all-male punk foursome who have been steadily gaining crescent popularity, especially after the release of their sore, slow-burning single, “Lawman”. Lasting more than six minutes, the track was a crescendo of frying-pan guitars and yelping vocals, so it’s quite surprising how the band steer away from it completely on new single, “The Cha Cha Cha”.
Girl Ban are set to release this exclusive track via Any Other City Records on flexidisc for Record Store Day 2014, limited to 100 box-mounted copies. Clocking in at exactly 25 seconds, the hardcore thrasher is an unstoppable and derailing train of chugging drums and maddening fiery guitar and bass. The track, apparently inspired by Sam Cooke’s suave “Everybody Loves To Cha Cha Cha”, lets vocalist Dara Kiely screech and interpret the all-too-common experience of a girl rejecting and laughing off a guy’s awkward efforts to amuse her. The track is pungent and lean, and might hit home for some.
Girl Band undertake a European tour, which also includes two shows during Brighton’s The Great Escape festival (8-10 May) and a free show at London’s The Lock Tavern Festival this Saturday (19 April).
