George Cosby impresses again with “Vacant Grace”
Sometimes space is a songwriter’s best friend. Remove the clutter and let the song do its work. And that is exactly what George Cosby has done with his second impressive outing.
The London newcomer caught our eye with the beefed-up re-release of “Ritual Blush” at the beginning of October; the dark and punchy debut set out his stall and showcased his clear songwriting ability. Now Cosby makes things simple by really letting his voice do the talking.
“Vacant Grace” is bare and chilling but maintains the brooding power of its predecessor, taking inspriation from Jeff Buckley - the track title perhaps a fitting nod to the master of this sound - and aligning him more recently with the brilliant Eaves.
Booming, church-reverberating guitar accompanies the attention-grabbing vocal “Don’t be afraid of the darkness darling” with a haunting authority before showing-off a soaring falsetto to offer a chilling false sense of security.
Streaming below, this stunning new track from George Cosby is taken from his Human Touch EP due 20 November; graceful and melancholy, there's nothing vacant about it.
George Cosby plays Zigfrid Von Underbelly as part of Community LDN on Thursday 5 November before The Pickle Factory, Oval Space on Tuesday 24. More information here.
