Listen: George Barnett – “3 Statues” [Premiere]
George Barnett is barely out of his teens but has already released a full-length album and an EP, tackling every instrument and production nuance by himself. There’s no ambiguity to the line “I’m gonna do things my own way” on this new track, “3 Statues”, then.
This new cut is another example of Barnett’s ‘way’, blending a number of juxtaposing styles in ways that are rarely seen and very rarely pulled off to this level.
Barnett’s voice contrasts with the hip-hop influenced intro beat and changes its pitch and style every time you blink, but when your head is removed from the track’s polarising intricacies it proves a joyous listen and a triumph for the huge amalgamation of styles.
“Three Statues” is due to appear on Barnett’s forthcoming, as yet untitled EP due this May. He plays the Dot To Dot Festivals in Manchester, Bristol and Nottingham this year.
