Watch: Gentlemen – “Children Of The Setting Sun”
Psych-rock renaissance band, Gentlemen, have released the video to accompany the latest single from their forthcoming EP, Night Reels. Entitled “Children Of The Setting Sun”, the track is crammed full of infectious riffs and hooks that shimmer across a sonically charged soundscape of psychedelia, matched nicely by adventurous visuals.
The east London based quartet are the latest in a long line of 60s counterculture revivalists, and hope to climb to the top of the pile with their take on the kind of music made popular by the likes of Tame Impala, Pond and Temples.
“Children Of The Setting Sun” is born in a haze of reverb-drenched guitars and obscure rhythmic patterns, held together by a tight, striking bass line. As the excruciatingly catchy guitar lines of the chorus burst into life, Paul Housden’s dreamy vocals pour over the instrumentation, sounding like Marc Bolan (T. Rex) put through a futuristic megaphone. Triumphant synths add further layers with yet more indie-pop motifs, before this melting pot of stratospheric, hippy anarchy collapses into a pit of swirling nothingness. In the video, we’re treated to shots of shadowy trees and bewitching forest cults, complemented no less than by the track’s hazy makeup.
Gentlemen launch Night Reels at London’s Sebright Arms on 18 March with support from Whistlejacket and Molly Wagger. Their EP (and physical collection) is released on 17 March via Week of Wonders.
