Gabriel Sayer's second offering "Spring Of Choice" is playful, but no joke
Renowned for comedic tracks like "Zendaya is Meechee" and "I Need To Meet Richard Dreyfuss", former Vine star Gabriel Gundacker shares new track "Spring of Choice", packed full of playfulness and with no punchline in sight.
When your most famous tunes are a campy musical take on the cast list of 2018 film Smallfoot and an ode to meeting Jaws star Ricard Dreyfuss, it’s no wonder you’d pick a pseudonym to start releasing music without a punchline.
Gabriel Gundacker found fame on Vine, and has since been recording music and videos, working as a comedian and actor, and generally being hilarious on the Internet. Based in Chicago, he also plays with the indie-soul band Fat Night.
As Gabriel Sayer, his self-described ‘sincere music project’, he’s unleashed a side that may lack the laughs, but by no means loses the fun. First offering "Isabelle" is a swooning and delicate ode to patience, but on new track "Spring of Choice" Gundacker plays with trippy synths, jostling production and a sprightly joie de vivre.
Collaborating with LA musician Riley Geare who also shares vocal duties, the two have created something that slaps with an instantaneous hook of bass and harmony. It’s got a bit of Ariel Pink’s creativity, a pinch of Foxygen’s retro flair and a hint of Animal Collective's playfulness. While Gundacker’s new project may be no laughing matter, it’ll definitely make you smile.
