From Sheffield to Jamaica with love: Coco brings grime to Jamrock with "Ova Here”
Produced by Toddla T and The Drum Keys, we see Sheffield’s very own Coco get lyrical about his music journey and the system in a conscious rap on new cut “Ova Here”.
The track shows us Coco’s adaptability as a flowmaster as he spits bars on a sick, ominous beat. Reggae heavyweight, Protoje, delivers a sweet hook on the beat making “Ova Here” a perfect mix between the two genres. 2016 has been a big year for the grime artist so far with Coco named in Mixmag as one of Annie Mac’s artists to watch. He’s earned this title over and over throughout the year with his witty, creative lyrics and “Ova Here” shows us he is full of surprises.
Grime is yet to make an impact in the Caribbean but with more collaborations like these, the music could eventually smash it across the pond. We think Coco and Protoje could not have been a better pairing. On working with Protoje and shooting the video in Kingston, Jamaica, Coco says he "feels such a privilege to work with Protoje...[it] was sick going over to Jamaica to film the video and see my roots." This is a definite banger for London’s upcoming Notting Hill Carnival.
