Montreal's FOXTROTT unleashes her brassy synthpop masterpiece "Shaky Hands" [Premiere]
Montreal's Marie-Hélène L. Delorme - nom de guerre FOXTROTT - is revealing her brand new single "Shaky Hands" on Best Fit.
"Shaky Hands" follows "Driven", both of which are taken from the long-playing follow up to her 2012 EP Shields, A Taller Us.
The track is immensely poppy from the off - glimmering synths and a parping brass bassline recall Scandinavian sensations The Knife or Kate Boy. A wet slap of percussion punctuates each hook, snarled lyrics shine through fluffy electrics - Delorme vanishes into the nebulous borderlands of experimental pop, dance and electronica.
Delorme is a "self-taught singer, songwriter, producer and beat-maker" venturing into her first proper release with fresh tactics. Speaking about her approach to the new noises, Delorme said: “My goal was to find the perfect balance between rhythms and frequencies, the production style that I wanted to put forward, and lyrics and emotional presence expressed by the voice. It was a big challenge I set myself.”
Debut record A Taller Us is released 6 November via One Little Indian. "Shaky Hands" is released 28 August.
