Hastings newcomers Folded Like Fabric effortlessly blend jazz and pop on "Patiently"
We know next to nothing about Folded Like Fabric, a new duo from Hastings in East Sussex. What we do know is that we're instantly drawn to their frenetic, jazz-inspired pop.
New track "Patiently" is in fact a smorgasbord of sounds even beyond jazz. Muted math-rock guitars scratch behind frantic bass licks and jazz pops, while the squeaky-clean lead vocals recall the indie-pop prowess of Two Door Cinema Club.
It's not something we've heard much before and yet it somehow feels very familiar. Perhaps it's that they borrow magpie-like from many genres that permeate modern music while retaining a sound that's completely their own. With an early track as accomplished as this, we're certainly intrigued to hear more.
"Patiently" appears on Folded Like Fabric's debut EP, I Tried, out now via Beauvoir Records.
