Field Division tease debut album with the driving energy of "River In Reverse"
Iowa-based duo Field Division are at the height of their powers on "River In Reverse" - a breathtaking, Fleetwood Mac-inspired juggernaut and the opening track to their upcoming album Dark Matter Dreams.
"River In Reverse" sees the duo, comprised of Evelyn Taylor and Nicholas Frampton, effortlessly capture the mesmerising electricity of a live performance. The song is driven forward with a relentless energy that dips and dives through time signatures and different moods, feeling at once uplifting with the excitement of rip-roaring guitars whilst also being traced with a certain beautiful melancholy.
Taylor's vocals are exquisite yet eery, whilst Frampton perfectly accompanies her fluttering, high octave delivery with an assertive counter that balances out . They have managed to take the magnetism of their 2014 EP Reverie State, and expand on it, adding more drama and more atmoshphere, pushing the boundaries of their sound and what they are capable of achieving.
Explaining the meaning behind the song, the duo say "'River' explores the duality of life and death with the ebb and flow of light and darkness. The lyrics flow with the intention of inspiring the listener (and ourselves) to transcend all troubles and negativity and focus on the road ahead, only taking that of the past which helps balance us in the future."
The track is taken from their upcoming debut album, Dark Matter Dreams, which is due to be released on 22 June via Bella Union and was produced by Midlake's McKenzie. The album will be a collection of songs that further exemplify the band's mission statement: "to transcend, to be or go beyond the range or limits, whether it’s the darkness of our own minds or society."
Field Division will be also be embarking on a UK/European tour later this year, including a special Best Fit show at The Lexington in London.
