FAMLY debut with the stunning folk-pop of "Waiting"
Jeff & Suzy Capel are FAMLY. Their debut release “Waiting” sees the pair voice their worries and fears about what life might be like for their two young children as they grow up in this tumultuous time.
"'Waiting' is a song about the strange place we find ourselves in," the pair explain. "Things are going to happen, most likely not for the better. Yet nothing in our day to day lives has changed, it feels like we are just waiting for something to happen." However, more often than not, simply waiting is not enough and in order for change to prevail activism is essential.
Travelling to where the music takes them - thus far London, Italy and Berlin - the pair have been recording and shooting visuals all with a baby and toddler in tow. The track sounds warm, despite its darker themes, and there’s a familiarity in Suzy’s voice that is particularly comforting alongside the gentle guitar.
Talking more about the topic of inequality and their experiences, in particular with the London Riots of 2011, the pair gave the following statement:
“Throughout history there has always been rich and poor but it feels like more than ever, we are going through a period of massive inequality. We now know the richest 8 people in the world have the same wealth as 50% of the worlds poorest population. Thats just totally nuts - something is going to give and it feels like we are on the cusp of something. When we watched the rich bankers fall 7 years ago, we then watched as our governments bailed them out, handed over billions whilst at the same time stripping the poor of what little benefits they claimed through so-called austerity. We live in Clapton, Hackney where one of the riots happened in 2011. Although violence is not the answer, the truth is the riots represent something deeper, the disparity between the rich and the poor, those who spend hours a day in low paid jobs with no real hope of moving up the ladder (let alone a pay rise) and then those who live on the same streets who earn so much money in the financial industries that they can retire at 40 years very very comfortably.”
