
"Sway" sees Sydney-based artist Exhibitionist open herself up to love
Through her latest song, Exhibitionist explores the vulnerability that one opens themselves up to when in love and the entangled emotions that come with infatuation.
"Sway" was produced by Jonathan Boulet and co-written by Melbourne-based LUCIANBLOMKAMP and comes after previous singles "Motionless" and "Hands". It majestically creeps in with elegantly placed beats that slowly build in layers that swirl in hypnotic and tantalising motion.
Fragility is expressed through the held-back tension of the restrained, yet lush, texture of the synths and beats that collide with one another in dancelike fashion. However, everything is measured out in a way that reflects the need to not give away too much too soon, as though a tender secret lies at the heart of it all. There's longing and desire, but it is always tangled in the complexity of letting go.
Explaining the meaning behind the song, the artist says: "'Sway' is about feeling tangled up in someone, and wanting to fold into them completely, while futilely trying to guard your heart in the process. I wrote it in Melbourne over two days about a man I adore who has this beautiful, bright personality that sometimes makes my own flaws feel very exposed. It’s a personal reminder to be open to love, and to stop pushing against it even when things feel a bit unsteady."
Ultimately, it is a song that is dripping with magic and understated serenity.
