Exclusive Album Stream: Tasseomancy – Ulalume
It’s a very intriguing and exciting time for music emerging from Canada, and particularly interesting is the fact that a good deal of it has emerged from the hands and minds of Toronto twins, Sari and Romy Lightman. Both are touring members of Toronto’s Austra, and the pair also used to perform under the moniker Ghost Bees. A change of name has followed a change in musical style and direction, with the duo’s latest project Tasseomancy showcasing the results.
The darker, more openly experimental and ambient sounds of Tasseomancy have been captured for their debut full length album Ulalume, available to stream exclusively here at The Line of Best Fit. Inspired by the poetry of Jerome Rothenberg, Ulalume is a rich and involving collection of folk songs which have been bathed in reverb, surrounded by sweeping dynamics and featuring the warm harmonies and impressive vocal ranges of the Canadian sisters.
Tasseomancy will release Ulalume on the 29 August through Turf Records, on a limited edition candle/matchbook/download format, and the band will also play a special release show on 30 August at London’s CAMP Basement. But until then, sit back, relax and let yourself drift away to the decadent sounds of Ulalume.
