Emilia Tarrant’s “Same For Me” celebrates small acts of mutual kindness
After her Glastonbury debut, Emilia Tarrant is winning new fans with her exquisite voice and songwriting talent, particularly in "Same For Me".
In "Same For Me", Emilia Tarrant describes the way love is supposed to be: full of reciprocal moments of kindness and concern. Whether it’s romantic love or affection for a parent or good friend, things go smoother when there’s unprompted, mutual love. “I’d do it over and over again / I’ll be the reason you get out of bed / ’cause you would do the same for me”, she sings.
It helps that this worthy sentiment comes with a soaring chorus, enlivened by Tarrant’s sparkling-but-believable vocal. “Someone very close to my heart inspired me to write "Same For Me",” says Tarrant. “The song is about supporting the ones you love at their lowest moments, even by taking on the simplest of errands, and knowing that they’d do the same for you. My person has constantly done this for me, and that is something I’ll forever be grateful for.”
The video for "Same For Me" (which drops 14 July) shows Tarrant’s journey from her house to a loved one’s home carrying a cup of coffee. It’s the perfect metaphor for small acts of kindness where the giver knows that the receiver would gladly do the same if the situation were reversed. “The idea for the music video came from the first lyric of the song: ‘I wake you up with a coffee’,” she shares. “The director and I had a lot of fun shooting this one, although it was definitely more technical than it looks!”
Tarrant’s previous single “When It Was Chaotic” was produced by Ed Sheeran’s longtime producer Will Hicks. It’s a song focused on an emotion familiar to many of us: preferring the chaos and maelstrom of a relationship to the feeling-less aftermath. Tarrant’s angelic voice makes you really feel both emotional states.
Speaking about her songwriting, she continues “All my songwriting is true from the heart and mind, a way of me escaping from the daily stresses of life,” while her influences run the gamut from Coldplay and Foals to Tate McRae and Holly Humberstone.
Fresh from her appearance at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, Emilia Tarrant’s elegant voice and songwriting skills are helping her catapult to new levels of success.
