Danish newcomer Emi Wes serves up orchestral elegance on debut single "Issues"
Danish singer/songwriter Emi Wes teams her soulful, elegant vocals with mesmerising orchestral instrumentation for her intimate debut single "Issues".
The breathtaking debut single showcases Emi Wes' impeccable vocal control and maturity, as her soulful tones meander through the piano-driven instrumentation.
"Issues" is an introspective ballad which she collaborated on with renowned Danish producer Robin Hannibal (who received a co-writing credit for Kendrick Lamar's "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe").
The sparse instrumentation is built on a soothing piano melody. Gradually, the track introduces cinematic string parts that follow Emi Wes' vocal lead, building to a peak at the end of each verse.
Emi Wes' vocal delivery on "Issues" is incredibly intimate, with the recording catching every mouth movement and pitch change. Her whispery voice is laced with a huskiness and soulfulness that only reiterates that she has an incredibly powerful voice that's yet to be unleashed in full.
The Danish singer/songwriter says of her debut single, "The instrumental, the strings and Robins chords just gave me the words to a feeling I had in me. I guess it was also important for me to address that I have issues too, because we all do. Sometimes saying it loud makes it more okay. For me it's a sign of strength being able to say the less pretty out loud."
