Else Born's debut single "This Time/Remember" is a disconsolate electropop dream
Better know as one half of Norwegians Philco Fiction, Turid Alida Solberg is branching out on her own solo career as Else Born, starting with the wistful "This Time/Remember".
On her last record with Philco Fiction, TALK/BRAG, Solberg looked back to the 80s and 90s for inspiration, but as Else Born she's very much in the 21st century with an icy cool electronic sound.
Over a gently pulsing backbeat, Else Born reminisces over the early days of a relationship ("Remember how we used to run all the lights? We got nothing to prove...") with her distinctively pleading, always slightly reaching voice. There's an R&B influence in the triggered vocal samples and softly seductive synths, but the overall feeling is of a masterclass in modern electronic pop.
