Melbourne-based artist Ella Thompson is nothing short of mesmerising on magical new track "Snow"
After taking some time out to concentrate on her collaborative projects, Ella Thompson returns with a striking new track that puts her expansive talent on full display.
The word "euphoric" is massively overused when it comes to music criticism, but there are few other ways of describing the transformative power that runs through the heart of Ella Thompson's newest offering. It seeps in slowly, but as Thompson's vocals develop and the track grows, the harmonies and strings literally feel as though they are glowing with a completely immersive energy that will bring you into Thompson's dream-like world.
Thompson's voice soars to the high heavens, whilst the accompanying visuals that were created by renowned artists Prue Stent and Honey Long only add to the surreal, yet sensual power of the stunning new track.
"'Snow' is about the feeling of temporality... I’m interested in the idea of metamorphosis… what changes." Explains the Australian artist of the track's inspiration, before adding "The women and the rocks in the visual of 'Snow', co-existing with soft and hard surfaces. Collaborating with Prue Stent and Honey Long on this video was pure joy, their use of body art to reconfigure the gaze is a thrill. The song started with a loop of (collaborator) Jonti’s voice, which was then developed with strings, piano and many other bits and pieces."
This may be her first solo offering since 2015, but it feels like an exciting time for Thompson as she continues to enthrall with her boundlessly startling and joyous work.
