Elin Bergman teams up with NEIKED on "Naked"
There’s a never a dull moment in the constantly shifting landscape that is Swedish pop. Your new favourite Swedish pop star Elin Bergman might have flown under your radar thus far, but latest single “Naked” puts her firmly on the map as a rising force as both a vocalist and songwriter.
“Naked” has a certain spark which lifts it above the star’s previous releases - all good, but nothing that bangs quite as much as this!
From the opening bars, you can tell that “Naked” is a quintessential feel-good song. Bergman explains it’s “about curiosity, being comfortable with yourself and to love your own body.” For Bergman this is a “really important message” which she hopes resonates with people who the track. “I love my body and I want others to feel the same.”
As well as building people up, Bergman is keen for “Naked” break something down; that something being “the wall that society has been building, about how men should take control and women should just follow.” Bergman is clear “it shouldn’t be that way” and in today’s alarming political climate this is even more affecting.
The track is a collaboration between Bergman and the guys who she’s spent the most studio time since her stint on Idol in Sweden, something which seems to almost be a rite of passage for up and coming Swedish artists. Victor Rådström, Benjamin Beard and Erik Sahlén “are people I feel really relaxed with” she explains, “I think you can tell that we had a lot of fun writing it.” Between the three of them they’ve had involvment in all four of Bergman’s previous singles, including the epic “Gasoline Dream” - currently her most streamed track on Spotify.
Talking more about the history of the track, Bergman reveals that “Naked” isn’t particularly new. It was written 18 months ago, and wasn’t always destined to be her next single. “Our intentions were to pitch it to some other artist since it [had] a more bubblegum pop vibe to it, and I didn’t feel that it suited me.” When back in the studio working on another song “[they] started singing the Naked melody on it and it fitted perfectly.” It was this realisation of “how good it actually was” that had Elin saying “yup, that’s mine.” The rest is history.
Rådström is now better known - at least internationally - by his alias as NEIKED, the producer behind viral hit “Sexual”. “He’s the first producer I started working with and I couldn’t be [happier] for him since everybody’s starting to recognize how talented he really is.” “Naked”, the track has already doing well and Bergman hopes people can see the potential in her and in this song, a song that has the potential to do so much, but ultimately “makes you wanna dance.”
