Brilliant Norwegian vocalist Elida Høgalmen debuts the spacey and ambitious "Winter Sun"
Bergen's Elida Høgalmen is releasing a cosmic new track today, and it signals an artist with a sense of adventure.
Having just one other recorded track available on line in the shape of the gently swooping "The End", Høgalmen has dispensed with any thoughts of holding back on the magnificent "Winter Sun".
Combining woozy music-box piano with an otherworldly vocal in the opening bars, the track gradually opens out over five minutes with slide guitar adding a grandiose element. While a gently insistent psych rock outro pushes "Winter Sun" to its limits, it's Høgalmen's voice which provides some sort of anchor. The repeated mantra of "wake up to something new" suggests both escapism and rebirth, and a positivity bursting from every note of this track.
