Crystal Fighters' Eleanor K. shares tightly-wound pop jam "I Can Only See Me"
With Crystal Fighters, Ellie Fletcher made eclectic, excitable electro-folk. With her initial solo project Kyiki, Fletcher pushed her sound in a darker direction. Now, simply as Eleanor K., Fletcher embraces sophistication and subtlety with her current commitment to pin-sharp pop.
New release "I Can Only See Me" is a tightly-wound offering that unfolds sensually as it progresses. Multi-tracked vocals chorus over loopy, elastic basslines, backed by spiky, shuffling percussion. Every element of "I Can Only See Me" is so finely tuned; the progression, build, and release mapped with such precision that it's able to get into your head and under your skin in absolutely no time at all.
Eleanor K. has offered up something different in every incarnation, but this project has a clarity of direction that offers authenticity and focus. Maybe that's why "I Can Only See Me" is one of the best things we've ever heard from her.
